About BreakInCheck.com
An independent comparison service and an open burglary map for the United States.
Our mission
Every year in the United States, police record roughly 900,000 residential burglaries (source: FBI Uniform Crime Reporting). Yet most households only discover how exposed their own neighborhood is… after a break-in. And choosing a home security system or homeowners insurance is an opaque process, full of jargon, long contracts and marketing claims that are hard to compare.
BreakInCheck.com was built to make this information readable. We continuously monitor the U.S. local and national press to map reported burglaries, and we put the main alarm and home-insurance offers side by side so you can compare in under two minutes.
Our independence
We are not affiliated with any alarm company or insurance carrier. The burglary map is built from publicly available news reports, automatically aggregated and geocoded. No personal data about victims is ever collected or published.
Our business model is lead generation: when you click through to a partner’s offer and sign up, we earn a commission. This commission never changes the price you pay or our editorial ranking — our scores are based on public criteria (value for money, contract transparency, contract length, quality of service).
How we work
- Burglary map — a bot reads the main U.S. outlets every day (local TV affiliates, metro dailies, regional news sites, etc.) and extracts incidents with location, date and type. Everything is geocoded automatically and published openly.
- Alarm & insurance comparisons — each offer is rated against 5 to 8 measurable criteria, including monthly monitoring cost and the typical homeowners-insurance deductible. Listings are updated whenever a price or a policy term changes.
- Guides — written by our team from published policy documents, with no input from partners.
